New report on status of reintroduced brown bears in the Italian Alps

The 2012 annual report from the bear reintroduction project in the Italian Alps has been released. The basic message emerging from this year's report is that while things are going well with the bears, there is an apparent decline in social acceptance for the presence of the bears among local communities in the region. The authors of the report describe the project as being in a critical phase where local and central authorities will need to adapt to the presence of the bear.
