Europe is home to over 17.000 brown bears. One of the largest population occupies the Dinaric-Pindos mountain range that stretches from Slovenia, through Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, and Macedonia to Greece. Bears face many threats throughout this range, with its diversity of cultures and environments. One of the strangest is the western Balkan tradition of keeping live bears in cafes and restaurants as "entertainment". This video called "Bears Belong to Nature", made by the Albanian NGO PPNEA provides insights into this practice, and on the wider situation of Albanian bears.
