This unique camera trap image shows a Balkan lynx in Macedonia covering its roe deer kill. Not only is it one of the first images of a Balkan lynx in the wild, it is also a GPS-collared lynx which is providing some of the first really solid ecological data on this critically endangered sub-species. Covering a kill is a normal strategy for lynx as they often return to a kill again and again until it is all eaten. Covering it with snow and vegetation helps to hide it from scavengers and slows its decay.
