Officially lynx are extinct in Bulgaria, but after years of trying researchers finally found the first proof of a lynx in 2008. Once again a camera trap captured this image of a lynx in the western edge of Bulgaria. The lynx is still there as the researchers were able to take new photos of what is presumably the same individual in late 2010. The fact that it can take so long to find proof of lynx presence in an area is a testimony to their ability to live discrete and secret lives in the forests and mountains. It is also proof that there is still a lot of basic knowledge missing about the distribution of these species.
